Faculty Development for Student Success
The practice aims to enhance faculty aptitude training skills, improving student outcomes through collaborative learning for real-world challenges.
In today’s competitive educational landscape, SDM College recognized the pressing need for comprehensive aptitude training. This initiative was implemented to ensure that students are well-prepared for various challenges they may encounter in their academic and professional lives, regardless of their chosen field.
The faculty development program (October 2023 – February 2024) trained selected faculty in aptitude assessment and teaching methodologies. These faculty now conduct aptitude classes for degree students, promoting critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. The initiative enriched learning and fostered mentorship and collaboration within the college.
The program’s success is evidenced by positive student feedback, indicating increased confidence and improved performance in aptitude assessments. Faculty reported heightened student engagement and participation, reflecting the effectiveness of the training in enhancing educational quality and student learning outcomes.
While some faculty faced challenges in adopting new teaching methodologies, essential resources such as training materials and expert facilitators were critical in overcoming these obstacles and ensuring effective class delivery.
For sustained success, ongoing support and periodic refresher courses for faculty will be vital. This will help maintain the effectiveness of the program and adapt to evolving educational needs and student expectations.

Title of the Practice:Vidyasanjeevini Scheme for Economically Disadvantaged Students
Objectives of the Practice:
To ensure that no student discontinues education due to financial difficulties by providing necessary financial assistance for college fees.
The Context:
Many of our students are from rural and low socioeconomic background and face financial hardships that threaten their ability to continue higher education. Vidyasanjeevini Scheme aims to address this issue through alumni and community support.
The Practice:
The Vidyasanjeevini Scheme offers crucial financial assistance to students who are unable to pay their college fees. It primarily relies on generous contributions from the alumni network, with additional support from local philanthropists. The scheme is structured to be transparent and accessible, ensuring that deserving students receive timely and sufficient aid.
Evidence of Success:
The scheme has reduced dropout rates among economically disadvantaged students. Alumni contributions and community involvement have played a key role in sustaining the initiative, improving student retention and academic performance, while enhancing their confidence to continue their studies.
Problems Encountered and Resources Required:
Sustaining funding consistently for the Vidyasanjeevini project has been challenging. Repeated appeals to donors are often necessary to realize their promised contributions. Identifying deserving students requires careful vetting.
Notes:
The scheme will expand to provide nutritious midday meals at highly concessional prices. We also aim to create more comprehensive support mechanisms, including mentorship and career guidance for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
